Long suffering Nvidia desktop users wishing to ditch the binary driver should temper their excitement though, with Turing and Ampere data centre GPUs being the first architecture deemed production-ready and supporting features such as multiple displays, G-SYNC, and RTX ray tracing in Vulkan, and OptiX. Nvidia said that desktop support was alpha quality, and users could opt in if they wanted to. The driver package released by Nvidia will have both the binary and open source driver, with the decision on which to use made during driver installation....

Nvidia on Thursday said it signed an agreement with Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) to arm university lecturers and more than 20,000 students in AI skills. The five-year initiative aimed to develop local AI talent as part of the country’s digital transformation efforts, the GPU manufacturer said. The agreement encompassed AI curriculum development, translation research workshops, as well as AI startup ecosystem development and support, Nvidia said....

The apps often come with the functions that are advertised in order to avoid users getting suspicious. In each case, the malicious intent of the app is hidden and the process of delivering the malware only begins once the app has been installed, enabling them to bypass Play Store detections....

Some 86.69% of developers picked Rust as their most “loved language” – a status it’s held for the past six years in programmer Q&A site Stack Overflow’s annual developer survey. Qualcomm said it continues to see traction in its automotive segment, with “a revenue-design win pipeline of approximately $10 billion”. In a letter to Veoneer’s board of directors, Qualcomm said that together, the companies could gain a foothold in the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) market. “As the automotive industry continues to transform, it is becoming increasingly important for automakers to have a partner who develops horizontal platforms that drive innovation and enable competition,” said Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm CEO....

On the same morning, Sydney’s Daily Telegraph landed with a front page claiming China was behind the incident. Thanks to the appearance of CS Energy on a leak site listing victims of Conti ransomware run by the Wizard Spider group for the purposes of double extortion, the claims made by News Limited would appear to be unfounded. In September, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said the group uses a ransomware-as-a-service model, but instead of paying affiliates a cut of the earnings that come from ransoms, the group pays the deployers of the ransomware a wage....

Cybersecurity researchers at Qualys examined the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) most used in ransomware attacks in recent years. They found that some of these vulnerabilities have been known for almost a decade and had vendor patches available. But because many organizations still haven’t applied the available security updates, they remain vulnerable to ransomware attacks. The oldest of the top five vulnerabilities detailed in the analysis is CVE-2012-1723, a vulnerability in the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) component in Oracle Java SE 7, which was detailed in 2012....

Robert Half’s Demand for Tech Talent Report, which surveyed 750 tech-hiring managers across the UK, found that many companies that had adopted remote working during the COVID-19 pandemic were beginning to return to offices. While this is perhaps to be expected, the report also found that 28% of companies that operated a fully remote workforce prior to 2020 had moved to a hybrid arrangement that combines remote working with working from an office – indicating a shift in trend “that goes beyond a return to normal”....

Now researchers at NCCGroup have pieced together a few of the tools and techniques Lazarus hackers have been using recently, including social engineering on LinkedIn, messaging US defense contractor targets on WhatsApp, and installing the malicious downloader LCPDot. NCCGroup’s findings build on what’s already known about Lazarus hackers. The group, and its sub groups, are known to have used LinkedIn for tricking targets into installing malicious files such as Word documents with hidden macros....

A recent study revealed that 57% of SMBs in Australia and New Zealand have moved on from being in survival mode and are shifting to either growing or transforming their business. It also indicated that two-thirds of Australian SMBs are getting ready to bump up their IT spend in 2022. “The majority of SMBs in ANZ are now optimistic about the future,” said IDC ANZ senior market research and IT services senior market analyst Emily Lynch....
